I love these UI design rants, and I agree with all of your points, but I do wonder why you are repeatedly digging out your card from your wallet instead of using a form-fill application like Roboform, Lastpass, or your browser's built-in e-wallet.

That's exactly one of my recent musings: why best engineers aren't best candidates for management. However you bring it to the next level, since I didn't really think about lack of talent being a trigger to learning process which ends up with a good starting position for management role.

That's an interesting insight and the one I agree with.

I don't think you were trolling for comments with this, but I balk at the "iPhone is just marketing" meme: it's more like BMW versus Chevrolet (or Yugo, if you include Windows Mobile). ;-)

That previous comment got butchered by my phone's autospell feature. It was supposed to say:

I liked this balloon-juice post too. Apparently the military had lots of presentations with bullet lists before Powerpoint: http://www.balloon-juice.com/2010/04/27/powerpoint-is-evil/

You seem to collect links to Powerpoint Wisdom. Here is one more:

Web-form annoyances account for a number of my pet peeves. Their number increased when I moved outside of the United States. Perhaps the biggest is forms that give you an option for selecting a country other than the United States or Canada, but still require you to select from a list of U.S. states and Canadian provinces, without even giving an "other", "foreign", or blank option.

Another one that I'm seeing more of is in country lists where Taiwan is not not listed or is listed as "Taiwan, Province of China." You can bet that the company outsourced part of the web-site development to Chinese programmers.

Then there are the forms requesting common information (name, address, phone) that don't work with my form-filling application (now Lastpass, in the past I used Roboform) because the form-fields are poorly named.

Ah, venting in the blogosphere is therapeutic. I feel much better now.

Steve,

Thanks you so much for your thoughts and great breakdown of the features you're valuing in Office 2010. I'm sure the Office team would love it if you shared your expertise with the rest of the PowerPoint using community at the PowerPoint page on Facebook. You can join them here: http://www.facebook.com/MicrosoftPowerpoint.

Thanks again!

Best,
Kim

I agree with you re both paragraphs, Michael. I wasn't trying to suggest he should keep it going, but rather simply noting the passing of his (regular) voice.
